About Me

This is me. I live in a house with two other equally geeky people.

I'm a liberal. Even though I wasn't present for the occasion, I think that with so many people dead in the 20th century and before - to afford us some freedoms - it's insane to give them up again because of some "terrorist threat". Of course these are the brave words of someone unharmed and safe, but I do travel on the tube each day, so I'm aware of the possibility of instant vaporisation. Still, I'd rather take that chance than live in a society where I can't say what I'm writing down right now. (And indeed I'm worrying as I write this - won't someone be horribly offended, am I not slamming doors shut?) Bullshit. This is about governments rolling back the rights previous generations fought for. And us letting them.

I'm also an Atheist. I don't believe in any gods, even though I can't disprove them. But I'm not a lunatic who thinks that all "irrational thought" should be extinguished and religious people are intrinsically stupid. Still, if you come up to me and start claiming that as an atheist I can have no morality, or that "Intelligent Design" is a scientific theory, I'll give you a very very long lecture.

I like photography. It's a nice thing to balance out sitting at my desk and typing away at the computer. I don't think that I'm anything exceptional - the Internet rapidly disabuses most people of such notions. But I do try.

I also like cycling. Ideally combined with the above activity, and yet more balance to the near-unmoving life of being a bit shifter. I've been on one largish bike trip so far and fervently hope to do another one soon - though I don't know quite how yet. My bikes keep on getting nicked, and every time it happens I have more violent daydreams on how to reduce the problem of bike theft. Nowadays I just ride the cheaper kind of bike in anticipation.

For a living, I go to London and arrange bits in clever patterns. I also do the same as a hobby. The bits I arrange as a hobby are prettier but much less profitable.

I read. Mostly science fiction, and whatever else friends bring with glowing eyes squealing "you must read this!".

Very occasionally, I write fiction, or try to.

Sometimes, I draw. I'm not very good at that yet.

I cook a lot.

Sometimes I dance and often, I sleep.
