Space Exploration
Space Exploration is a simple exploration game similar to Strange Adventures in Infinite Space, Escape Velocity, Starflight or Star Control. It creates a new random map each time you play it, giving you different combinations of encounters each time.
It's currently under development, and I occasionally release development versions for people to try out and give me feedback. The newest version is dev 6, which massively improves upon the graphics performance of dev 5.
The long-term plan is to publish it as a shareware/"episodic" content game. This works as follows: The game is played on a randomised star map filled with randomised encounters, which gives it good replayability. But eventually, players will have seen all the encounters ten times, and the game becomes boring. To prevent this from happening, I would sell expansion packs, which add another one or two hundred encounters to the pool, making the game more varied and interesting again. So the base game, containing maybe a hundred encounters, would be free, and each extension would be a couple of pounds. Obviously, the intention isn't to make players shell out for little nibbles of flavour text released every week - each extension would contain about as much content as the main game. Part of the extensions' cost would be for offsetting the initial development effort for the game engine.
The idea is that if people like the gameplay and the writing, they can keep buying more of it, but it's free to try for everyone.
