HIKED: A set of five personality attributes

While doing some game design on the currently-in-abeyance Bonescape RPG, I was thinking about how to represent your reputation in the game, in particular your personality. I ended up with five attributes which I think are nicely independent of one another. You can have any of them without it saying anything about the others.

  • Honest - Do you tell the truth or not?
  • Insightful - Can you figure things out?
  • Kind - Do you care about other people?
  • Effective - Can you get things done?
  • Dangerous - Can you do harm?

(Yes, it spells HIKED, it's the only word I could find to help me remember the names.)

Some examples of how actions would change your reputation:

  • Telling an unwelcome truth: honest, insightful, and unkind
  • Saving someone from robbers: kind and dangerous
  • Helping a hungry person steal bread: dishonest and kind
  • Shooting someone in the back: dishonest and dangerous
  • Solving a problem through diligent effort: stupid and effective

Or you can use them as a set of 32 character archetypes, for example:

  • Honest, Insightful, Unkind, Ineffective, Harmless: Smartass
  • Honest, Stupid, Kind, Effective, Harmless: Himbo
  • Honest, Stupid, Unkind, Ineffective, Dangerous: Dark Knight
  • Dishonest, Insightful, Kind, Ineffective, Dangerous: Rogue with a Heart of Gold
  • Dishonest, Insightful, Unkind, Effective, Harmless: Evil Vizier

Feel free to use this or adapt it if it looks interesting.
